Richard Powers & Transhumanism

Sigh.  Despite the importance of the topic, the philosophical debates on transhumanism tend to be tiring.  Boring and repetitive platitudes of the libertarian and conservative variety abound with no positive signs arising that suggest the stale debate will shift in a more interesting and useful direction.  Maybe philosophers have contributed all that they can to the discussion, at least for now.  If so, a pause is in order so that the interested parties can pick up a novel, Richard Powers's latest, Generosity: An Enhancement.  His most accessibly written work, the text breathes fresh life into the basic questions concerning the nature, scope, and desirability of enhancing personal and collective forms of experience.
